Carrie and I are new to the empty nester thing. We decided to head to the Gorge (Washington) to watch Dave Matthews Band. We stayed a few days in our new trailer.

I convinced Carrie that an easy county highpoint was only 30 minutes away. She was in.

The weather was great, so we headed up after breakfast. We easily found the starting point and followed a jeep road to the top (good thing because she didn't want to hike through weeds or worry about snakes).

The pictures don't do it justice, but the views aren't bad. There are some large and glaciated peaks to the northwest and cool views all other directions.

We enjoyed the sun and exercise before returning a different way (via Quincy) to our RV park. This is different country, with crops you don't typically see in Idaho (like grapes and sunflowers) for example.

Go to the town of Ephrata, Washington and head West on 1st Avenue NW which will turn into Sagebrush Flats Road. Follow this to 19 NW and turn left heading south. It turns from paved to gravel here. Next turn will be a right and heading west on Overen road. Follow this up and down road for several miles to the very large power lines. This is your travel marker. We proceeded up to the ridge past the power lines and pulled off the road on a side road. This saddle and side road where we parked is 0.2 mile from the power lines and Overen Road cross.

We parked at the saddle where a jeep road headed up the peak. This wasn't the most direct way, but this isn't a long trip. We followed the jeep road up to a gate. Once through the gate, we headed left (west) and followed the fence line (right past Devil BM) until we could see Point 2899. Once near Point 2899, you will need to cross the fence. There is no cairn or BM marking the highpoint of Grant County.
