Trip Report
I was in Jackpot, Nevada for a co-worker's annual party. The day before I had hiked up Cold Springs Mountain with my wife. She didn't feel like another bland, desert hike on this morning, so I was on my own.
I was going to go after some bigger peaks further from Jackpot, but I wanted some quick exercise and less of a drive. Therefore, I chose Grassy Mountain, just 8 miles as the crow flies from Jackpot.
I thought the peak might be kind of small and indistinct. However, as I approached, I could see that it was quite prominent. In addition, the terrain wasn't too bad and there was even some grass and flowers growing.
I had no previous instructions on how to climb the peak, so I basically just got to the base of the peak and followed the northeast slopes to the top.
The terrain was steep, but easy. There were 3 rock steps, all about 10 feet high to climb over en route to the summit. While adding some challenge, each of them were pretty easy and I could have avoided them by going to the east slopes of the peak.
Eventually I was on top. It was a cool morning (35 degrees at the car), but it was windless and sunny on top. I found the "Ella Dee" benchmark under some rocks and snapped some pictures in the good morning light.
Eventually I headed down the way I had came. I enjoyed the quick hike and views... Grassy Mountain isn't a bad option at all!

Getting There
I followed US 93 for about 5.3 miles south of Jackpot. I turned right (west) onto an improved road. I followed this road 4.6 miles to the the point marked "5775 T" on the topo. I then turned left (south) and drove this good, but not improved road for 1.42 miles to a gate. I could have continued through the gate, but decided this was a great starting point.

Hiking Directions
From my parking spot on the northeast side of the peak, I crossed the flats and then followed the north ridge to the summit.
