Trip Report
Day 3 of our Copper Basin trip dawned cold and rainy. It had rained from 4am to 8am and the mountains were snow covered above 9000'. After a quick trip to Mackay, another storm chased us into the trailer for a bit.
Around 5pm we decided to brave the 40 degree weather and hike up to a small peak in Copper Basin. With storms still in the area, we figured we could get up Reed and Davis Benchmark rather quickly and if it did rain, we'd be back to the car soon anyway.
So we left our campsite and made it Copper Basin. Reed and Davis sits over the road, very near the turn for Burma Road, which is where we parked.
It was cold and windy, but the clouds and conditions provided some nice lighting. We hiked towards the peak, found an green access gate where an electric fence would have prevented access and finished our hike to the highpoint.
We enjoyed the views briefly, before noticing another menacing looking storm heading right for us. When we arrived back at camp around 6:30pm, it was 39 degrees and sleet was falling.
