Looking for a winter accessible peak led me south to the Owyhee Mountains. Brett from the Idaho Outdoors Forum had informed me that the road to Reynolds was plowed.

I wasn't really prepared to do a peak, but around 1pm I decided to head out to ascend Windy Point and Peak 5180. It was a sunny day, but when I arrived it was quite windy and cool. This was around the time I realized I forgot anything with a hood and I didn't have a stocking cap (both staples that are in my pack 99% of the time, but somehow missing this time). This made for a chilly day for my neck and ears, but I had plenty of coats to keep my core warm.

I parked in a large packed down area just before the road starts dropping into Reynolds Valley. I was surprised by lack of snow. Really only an inch or so of new snow and old drifts from earlier in winter. The snow I did have to contend with was rock hard and made for fast travel.

The north ridge takes you up and over Windy Point and eventually to Peak 5180. Views of the Treasure Valley from this ridge are great! On top, I found a register left by Tom Lopez on a hike last spring.

This is a fun peak and just over an hour from Boise.

I simply plugged in directions for Reynolds into my Google Maps application on my phone. About 3 miles before getting to Reynolds, I parked at the aforementioned parking spot (just north of the marked elevation of 4138 on the quad).

From my parking spot, I followed a jeep trail up to the north ridge and then basically followed the north ridge all of the way to the top of Peak 5180. There are a few fences to contend with.

On the way down, I dropped off the west side of the peak and eventually got on a road that led me right back to my parking spot.
