Trip Report
On my way back from Hailey, I decided a quick ascent of Teapot Dome was in order.
Teapot Dome is located northeast of the city of Mountain Home and sits about 3 miles east of Highway 20. It is a prominent feature, seen for many miles as one travels on I-84.
It was a windy day, but warm in the valley. I drove 2.25 miles southeast on Teapot Road, which parallels Teapot Dome. At a point that was nearly in a straight line to the summit, I parked.
I crossed the high desert toward the base of the peak. After about a 1/4 of a mile of mostly flat terrain, I started climbing in earnest up a fairly prominent gully. However, what seemed very very steep from the road wasn't as bad once I was there. I found good footing. After passing several neat rock outcroppings and towers, I was on the summit ridge. I then turned right towards the summit.
The summit ridge is somewhat flat, with a rounded rock rim protecting the even flatter summit plateau. I found a easy way up and was soon on top enjoying great views of the Snake River Plain.
The way down was without incident and I was soon on my way back to Boise after climbing 5 peaks in 4 days.

Hiking Directions
From the road, followed a near straight line to the top. After crossing the desert flats, I utilized a gully to the summit ridge. I then turned right and ascended the final summit block to the flat top of Teapot Dome.
