Trip Report
Zach and I planned a quick day trip. We threw around numerous options and settled on Peak 11087 in the Boulders. We knew very little about the peak, other than 2 had reported ascents of it. We chose to approach from the West Fork of the North Fork Wood River. We knew the West Fork drainage had a trail to approximately 8600'. We expected great scenery, wild flowers, and a moderate cross country approach after we left the trail.
We arrived at the trailhead at 9am and quickly started hiking. The trail in the West Fork Canyon is very nice. There were numerous waterfalls to view near the trail and above the trail. As the trail neared 8000' we were treated to incredible meadows of wildflowers, still in bloom despite it being mid-August. After about 3 miles, we left the trail and crossed the creek, following the forested slopes on the south side of the creek into a scenic alpine basin. We continued following the creek until around 9600', where we know had great views of Peak 11087. We rested, then headed up gravel slopes, covered intermittently with flowers. This looked stable from down below, but it was not fun. The loose rock and elevation took a toll on us. We pushed hard to reach the more solid rock near around 10600'. Finally we found a goat trail that led us to the solid rock that we would be on the final 500 feet to the summit.
The rock was interesting. It was at times white and red and somewhat slabby. Then we would enter sections of dark black rock that was hard and sharp (just like the Lost Rivers). Other areas were pink granite like the Sawtooths. Talk about a peak that isn't sure about its identity!
After 5 hours we summited the peak. The views were tremendous, some of the best from any peak. Most unique were the views of the "other" side of the Boulder front peak that I have primarily viewed and climbed from the west. Ryan and Kent looked great. The Pioneers, Sawtooths, and White Clouds were all in clear view. It was great weather... only bad part was that I was exhausted!
On the way out we stayed north of the outlet creek for Lake 10062. This was a great route and more direct than our ascent route. This led us to the creek where we pumped some water and took our last break. Shortly after that we found the trail and cruised the rest of the way.
It was a long trip, but well worth it.

Getting There
Drive 5 miles north on Idaho 75 from Ketchum and turn right at the SNRA headquarters. From there, follow the road (which soon turns dirt) about 5 miles to its end.
The road is rough in places, but you can slowly get a sedan there.
The trailhead is for 2 different trails, the North Fork trail heading to West Pass and the West Fork North Fork trail, which you want for this peak.

Hiking Directions
