Buttercup Mountain

Trip Report (June 1st, 2000):
I climbed Buttercup by following the trail that leaves from the end of Deer Creek road. After leaving the trail, it was a long and steep scramble up the pointed mountain along the southeast ridge. The top has a birds-eye view of the Pioneer, Boulder, Smoky, and Soldier Mountains. Look for a large rock cairn on top, but no summit register or benchmark.

Route:
From the end of Deer Creek road, follow the trail heading west. After 1 mile, turn onto the trail heading south and immediatley cross a stream. Follow this trail through forest until switchbacks bring you to a saddle, with Buttercup clearly visible to the northeast. From that point, follow the ridge about 1 miles cross-country to the top. At times it will seem that rock walls will block the path, but a easy slope can always be found.

Getting There:
From Hailey, drive north about a mile until you see a signed turnoff for Deer Creek road. Follow Deer Creek road to its end, where adequate parking is found. You will have no problem getting a two wheel drive car to the trailhead.
