Trip Report (7/18/1998):

Here is my trip report for Trinity Mountain.

I hiked to the top of scenic Trinity Mountain from the service road that leads to the active fire lookout on its summit. The view from the top of the highest peak in the Trinity Mountains is exceptional. A basin of lakes sits just below the summit, and the views are exceptional each direction. This is a very short and easy hike, one doable by kids and novice hikers.

Drive: There are numerous ways to get to the Trinity Mountain area. You can get there from Pine, Prairie, and Featherville. All are on winding roads. Once at the saddle between Peak 9,037 and Trinity Mountain, look for a road heading on the ridge towards Trinity Mountain. Follow this road to the locked gate and a turnout. Park in one of the limited spaces in the turnout. Keep in mind that the access road is usually closed blocked by snow until July 4th. Even during a drought year, we ran into snow on July 3rd and had to turn back.

Climb: From the gate, follow the service road as it switch backs up to the lookout.
